On February 18th, late at night, a fire ravaged through South Bay Elementary School.
Two of the three wings of the building were burnt to the ground.

The 400 children who attend South Bay Elementary now have no school to return to after their winter break, and their books have burned in the fire.

My name is Cassie. I am a graduate of South Bay Elementary, class of 2000. Ten years ago, I was a 5th grader in South Bay. At this school, I loved three things: the swings at recess, music time with Mrs. Sack, and the books. We had a library brimming with colorful shelves— a great big collection of stories and knowledge. My teachers stuffed their classroom shelves with books bought from their own paychecks. I was nine, and this school and its teachers offered me the magic of reading anything I could imagine.

All those books were destroyed in the fire.

The kids of South Bay Elementary don’t have a school to return to, but we can help them get their schooling despite that fact. We can give them the books they need to learn, grow, and most importantly, imagine.
